African Immigrant Families Together (AFIFAT) seeks to promote healthy families within the African immigrant community, where there is respect and safety for all and where conflict does not escalate to violence. Recognizing the stress that often comes with relocation – including racial discrimination, economic vulnerability, culture shock, isolation, depression, anxiety, and conflict – AFIFAT seeks to overcome the stigma surrounding mental illness and to direct people in crisis to counsellors and social service agencies. Through workshops, online forums, and other activities, we strive to promote conflict resolution and other coping strategies.
